NVQ Qualifications

National Vocational Qualifications demonstrate occupational competence and are required for obtaining CSCS skilled worker, supervisor, and management cards.

What Are NVQs?

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are based on national occupational standards. These standards are statements of performance that describe what competent people in a particular occupation are expected to be able to do.

Job-role specific NVQs are used to demonstrate occupational competence and are needed prior to a candidate being able to gain a Skilled Worker CSCS card. Build UK contractors insist that everyone working on their sites holds (or is working towards) a CSCS card specific to their job role.

All NVQs are delivered via the OSAT (On-Site Assessment & Training) route, which is typically completed over 2-4 site visits subject to the candidate's experience and the intensity of the qualification. Qualifications range from Level 1 for labourers through to Level 7 for senior construction managers.
